What Invisalign Really Costs in Edgware: Our Price, Line by Line

Of all the treatments patients ask me about, clear aligners are the hardest to price-compare. Two practices can quote figures a thousand pounds apart and both be quoting honestly, because they are quoting for different things. One figure is the aligners. The other is the aligners plus the scans, the reviews, the fine-tuning at the end and the retainers that hold the result.

So this post does for Invisalign what I did a while back for implants: it sets out our pricing line by line. What the starting figure is, what moves a case above it, exactly what the all-inclusive number covers, what sits outside it, and what the monthly cost looks like if you spread it. The starting figure, and the four things that move it

Invisalign at our Edgware practice starts from £1,600, and every case is quoted individually after assessment. That figure is published on our fee page alongside everything else we charge for, because I have never understood why a price should be a reward for booking a consultation.

Four things decide where your case lands above that starting point.

1. The tier your case needs. Invisalign Express covers very minor corrections, up to seven aligners per arch, typically three to six months. Lite handles mild to moderate crowding and spacing with up to 14 aligners per arch, typically six to nine months. Comprehensive is the full package for bigger movements and bite work, with unlimited aligners and typically nine to eighteen months of wear. A Comprehensive case at Campos is typically £2,500 to £4,500.

2. How many aligners, and how many arches. A single-arch relapse case uses a fraction of the trays a full upper-and-lower correction does, and the tray count is the largest single input into what the treatment costs us to provide.

3. Complexity. Attachments, interproximal reduction, elastics for bite correction and mid-treatment re-planning all add clinical time, and clinical time is the other half of the fee.

4. Whether the case is likely to need refinement. Almost all do. Ours are already in the price, which I will come back to, because this is the line item that most often turns a quoted figure into a bigger final bill.

I will tell you which tier your case needs at the consultation, and I will say so if Lite will do the job rather than Comprehensive.

What the all-inclusive figure covers

Whatever number I quote you, it is one fixed figure covering the whole treatment. Here is what sits inside it:

• The full sequence of aligners for both arches, however many trays your ClinCheck plan calls for.
• Digital scanning and ClinCheck planning, including the revisions you ask for before you sign the plan off.
• Attachments and IPR where your plan needs them, both the bonding on at the start and the polishing off at the end.
• Every progress review through the active phase, roughly one appointment every six to eight weeks.
• Up to two rounds of refinement aligners after the main sequence.
• A set of Vivera retainers made from your final scan.

For a typical Comprehensive case that is somewhere between 30 and 50 trays, every review appointment across a year or more of treatment, a refinement stage and a retainer set, all inside one number agreed before we start.

What is quoted separately

Four things sit outside the figure, and I would rather you knew now than found out in month nine:

• A replacement tray if you lose one. Quoted at the time, and it depends on where you are in the sequence.
• Replacement Vivera retainers in later years. Retainers wear out, typically over three to five years depending on whether you grind at night. We supply replacement sets at a reduced fee, quoted at the time.
• A fixed bonded retainer, if you want one. A thin wire bonded behind the front teeth as an extra safeguard alongside the Vivera set. Optional, and quoted at the time.
• Anything you choose to add afterwards. Home whitening is from £350, composite bonding is £250 per tooth, and a crown or veneer is quoted from the same published fee list. None of these are needed to finish an Invisalign case. They are things some patients decide they want once their teeth are straight.

There is one more cost that is not part of the Invisalign fee at all: the examination. A new patient examination is £65 and a routine examination is £50. The orthodontic assessment sits inside that appointment rather than being charged on top, and the 3D ClinCheck preview you come back to see afterwards is not a separate charge either, so you get your predicted result on screen and a written figure before you commit to anything.

What £3,500 looks like month by month

Most patients spread an Invisalign case rather than paying it in one go. We offer 0% finance through Chrysalis Finance from £350 to £25,000 over up to twelve months at 0% APR, subject to status.

For a £3,500 case over 12 months, that is just under £292 a month. No deposit is required, treatment starts once the agreement is approved and signed, and there is a fourteen-day cooling-off period afterwards. Longer terms are available at 9.9% APR representative. If you would rather not use finance, most patients pay a deposit covering the planning and scanning stage, then settle the balance when the first aligner is fitted. We do not ask for the full amount up front either way.

How to compare an aligner quote from anywhere

Patients bring me quotes from other practices fairly often, and the pattern is that the headline number rarely decides what someone ends up paying. Where the line sits between included and extra decides it. The quotes patients show me vary widely, and what varies most is not the headline number but how much treatment it actually buys. Retainers, refinements and progress reviews are the items most often priced separately, which can make two very different propositions look similar on a page.

So rather than compare headline figures, ask any provider you see, including me, these questions, and get the answers in writing:

• Is this the price for one arch or both?
• How many refinement rounds are included, and what does a third one cost?
• Are retainers included at the end, and which kind?
• Are the progress appointments included, or billed per visit?
• What happens to the fee if the plan needs re-scanning partway through?
• Is the scanning and planning stage charged if I decide not to proceed?

A practice that answers all six clearly is a practice you can budget for. That is the whole point of quoting the way we do.

The plan discount exception, stated plainly

Members of our adult dental plan pay £21.50 a month and receive 10% off treatment. Invisalign is the one exception to that discount, so the quoted price is the price whether you are a plan member or not.

I would rather write that plainly than have you find it in a footnote. The plan still earns its keep during treatment, because it covers the examinations and hygiene visits that carry on alongside the aligners, and the 10% applies to any restorative or cosmetic work you decide on afterwards.

Frequently asked

Is Invisalign cheaper than fixed braces?

Usually slightly more, but not always. Fixed braces at Campos start from £1,500 against from £1,600 for Invisalign, so the entry points are close. Braces do attract the 10% plan discount where Invisalign does not, which can widen the gap for plan members on a bigger case. Cost is rarely the deciding factor though, and our Invisalign versus fixed braces guide sets out the reasons that usually matter more.

Why do aligner quotes differ so much between practices?

Three reasons. What is bundled into the figure, as above. The tier being quoted, since an Express case and a Comprehensive case are genuinely different amounts of product and chair time. And whether the quote is for one arch or two. A quote is only comparable once you know all three.

What is a refinement, and will it cost me extra?

A refinement is a short second set of aligners at the end of the main sequence to fine-tune the result. It is not a failure and it is not unusual: teeth are biological and they vary. Most refinements add four to eight weeks. We include up to two rounds in the quoted fee.

Do I pay for the consultation?

The orthodontic assessment and the ClinCheck preview are not charged as separate items. What you pay for is the examination itself, £65 as a new patient or £50 routine. The scan is taken at that visit and you come back to see the 3D simulation and the written figure before deciding anything.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes, at 0% APR over up to twelve months from £350 to £25,000, subject to status. See the worked example above and our finance page for the full terms.

What happens after treatment, and what does that cost?

You get a set of Vivera retainers in the quoted price, worn full-time for three months and then nightly, indefinitely. Teeth drift for life, so retention is not optional. Replacement sets years later are supplied at a reduced fee. Some patients also choose a thin fixed retainer bonded behind the front teeth as an extra safeguard. That one is an optional add-on, quoted at the time, and we discuss it at the end of treatment.
